Behind The Scenes

The Woman Behind the Business

Hello Crafty Enthusiasts!

My name is Lisa Gorman and I'm originally from the UK! Eastbourne, East Sussex to be exact 😉. I am a lover of animals, traveling, food (although I am a very picky eater 🤣), and crafting (obviously, haha)

I vehemently hate tea and scones so I've always said I'm a terrible brit!

I am a pup mom to a crafty Husky, who has just recently learned how to steal food from the counter and treats from the cupboard while we're out, and a Boston Terrier who enjoys sun tanning and snuggling in a mountain of blankets.

The Business She Created

At a young age, even though many of my family members in England own their own businesses, I never thought I'd be one of them. However, after many years of struggling through multiple jobs with a running theme of bad management, them not sticking to what they supposedly believed in, and always lacking the ability to creatively challenge me, I knew it was time for a big change.

I wanted to create a progressive business from the ground up. Most, if not all supplies that this company sells will have the planet in mind. The products must be made from reused material, compostable, reusable, or recyclable.

When Crafty Stars Studio originally established, this was just a handmade business that tried its luck at various local markets on the weekends. Sadly, not many things sold during that time and I considered throwing in the towel. Shortly before this realization, I began learning the art of macrame for the first time, I noticed that Ottawa didn't have a store I would have absolutely loved to spend hours in.

An eco-friendly craft store - a one-stop shop for those who try to use sustainable products in their art. After a lot of thinking, I took the leap and gave this business a second chance.

I've always enjoyed various art forms growing up🧶 I've found I love it more seeing what others can create with the materials they receive. There is so much imagination in this world and I'm incredibly proud to help artists find their passion!

One of the things that I'm most passionate about is trying to make the world a better place. To reduce the amount of waste killing the eco-system and hurting animals. As Crafty Stars Studios continues to grow, everything will be derived from these values.

Sadly, my customized Scoubidou keyrings were not so eco-friendly and I decided later in 2023 to discontinue them. These keyrings would last you a very long time, my own one from childhood is almost 15 years old and still hanging around the apartment today!

As a last parting message, thank you so much for stopping by my business! I hope to have you all with me as Crafty Stars grows as we will definitely need all the support!

There are a lot of plans for the next few years and I can't wait to share them when Crafty Stars get to that point of its evolution! Our main goals are to create an in-person location where everyone can gather and create to their hearts content. I plan on building affordable DIY kits and starting workshops towards the end of 2024 for everyone to enjoy!

You don't have to purchase to help a small business! Word of mouth, sharing/reacting to posts, and recommending to friends as an option for their gift ideas or eco-friendly products help a lot too!
